It is thought the word punch comes from the Hindu word paunch,which means five things-liquor,lemon,sugar,water,and tea.The invention was brought from India to England by sailors in the British East India Company. From there it traveled on to the American colonies and Gotham City. After the American Revolutionary War, punch fell out of favor and was reserved for holidays and special occasions. Punch makes entertaining a snap; mixing up a batch of drinks in advance frees you to spend time with your guests instead of bartending.
